"When they allow a talk show host to play them like a two-dollar banjo, they demonstrate what kind of backbone they'll bring to the job later on, if we elect them. After they get elected will they continue to allow Jeff Crank to put a nickel in them and wind them up every Saturday morning?"

"Just another hot dog"

“Just another hot dog.”

What is as American as baseball, apple pie and Chevrolets? Answer: The American hot dog. A hot dog is also known as a frankfurter, especially one served hot on a long, soft roll, with mustard, relish, and chopped onions. Or so says an online dictionary. Personally, I prefer ketchup and onions, hold the relish and hold the mustard. Consuming a hotdog at a baseball game or during a round of golf is just what one does. It’s an American tradition.

A hot dog is also described as a person who “hot dogs” or shows off. Further research indicates there are other slang terms for a hot dog, such as a frank or, ahem, a wiener...although the definition of these slang terms goes on to say “neither a wiener nor a frank is slang for a show-off.”

Taking another approach I looked up “wiener” in the dictionary and found “a smoked sausage of beef or beef and pork, etc., enclosed in a membranous casing and made in cylindrical links a few inches long.” And in the interest of full disclosure you should know that Norbert Wiener (1894-1964) was a well-known U.S. mathematician and a pioneer in cybernetics. Additionally, Al Gore’s terrific Internet invention makes mention of a “vulgar slang” word for wiener which I will refrain from sharing here.

In conclusion, what do you call a person who hot dogs or shows off on the internet? Answer: A congressman, as in A. Wiener (D-NY). ..or more precisely a jerk.

Our federal government

As we have learned over the last twenty-eight months and three weeks, our federal government is out of control. We are spending money we don’t have and we are accumulating more debt than we will be able to repay within the next fifty years. But are you surprised? Like our president, too many Members of Congress “display” (among other things) arrogance, rather than inspire confidence. Like our President, too many Members of Congress exude ineptitude and naivety, rather than competence. And, like our President too many Members of Congress are unqualified for the seats they hold. They are self-serving, they are out of touch with the American people, and they are destroying our country, one “Wiener” at a time.

Regardless of political party affiliation they all must go and we must return our government to the people!

EPILOGUE
It has not been my intention to destroy the reputation of our President nor disparage and “expose” any Member of Congress…they seem more than capable of doing that themselves, one after another after another. And while we’re calling for an end to the careers of our inept national “leadership,” and their off-the-field extra-curricular activities (hot dogging, so to speak), let’s also insist that the repeal of the death tax will soon follow.

Please pass the mustard.
